Cottonwood is a city 18 miles west of Sedona with a population of around 11,000 inhabitants. Homes in Cottonwood, although much less expensive than neighboring Sedona homes, are increasing in value at almost the same rate, making Cottonwood an excellent low-cost real estate investment.
Cottonwood's climate is also much more temperate than most cities in Arizona, as it is much warmer than Flagstaff during the winter and much cooler than Phoenix in summer. Cottonwood is a centre of commerce for nearby towns such as Sedona, Jerome and Cornville, as it has much more variety in shopping, including a Super Walmart, Big Five, and a Home Depot. However, it still maintains a friendly small town atmosphere.
Cottonwood is also home to the largest medical facilities in the Verde Valley, a High School and Elementary School, a library, several parks, and a golf course. It really has something for anyone looking to move to this desert oasis. Old town Cottonwood has seen a major revivial in the last decade and continues to flourish, with wine producers tasting rooms, bars, restaurants and antique shops a plenty.
The city has many annual community events including the Verde River Days, the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival, the Cottonwood Gem & Mineral Show, a Chocolate Walk, a Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration, and the Cottonwood Christmas Parade.
